NIGERIANS desirous of investing their money in profitable ventures have been advised to consider investing in grasscutter farming, as it is a stress-free, money-spinning venture.
This advise was given by a farmer, Mr Femi Adeleye, while speaking with Tribune Agriculture. The livestock farmer said that this advice became imperative as many people are skeptical or afraid of investing their hard-earned money in livestock businesses like poultry, piggery, cattle rearing or others.
According to him, grasscutter farming requires less capital and it is not full of hazards compared to other types of businesses. He also said fish farming is another livestock venture that could bring quick fortune.
On why he held such a view, he said, “it is not that I’m afraid, hate or discouraging people from embracing other livestock businesses, it is just that many people, especially freshers who want to go into farming often want to start or consider agricultural business that will not give them stress. For such people, I would like them to consider my recommendation because they must have heard some unpleasant stories about farming, especially livestock business.
“But I want them to know that many of such stories are not true. However, if people want to embrace livestock farming, new entrants should consider a livestock business that is not capital intensive and one of such is grasscutter farming,” he affirmed.
The farmer also stated that grasscutters are neat and clean animals that live in a room and parlour, adding that their house should be designed like that, if grasscutter farmers expect good performance from the animal. The animal is also unique because it will not sleep where they eat and they are also easy to maintain, as they bring about good income, when sold.
Grasscutter farming is one of the successful and profitable livestock businesses today and it is another way of creating employment,” he said.
Grasscutter farming can create employment opportunity for the jobless in the society. For example, when practising it, you could empower carpenters, welders and other artisans to fabricate the house and other useful materials to rear the animal for maximum profit. The animal is also rugged and strong and their feeding system is cheap and affordable.”
He, however, expressed delight at the rate at which some pensioners in the country today are embracing grasscutter farming, just as he advised those who are into crop farming to start grasscutter farming as well, stressing that it is a business that cannot give anybody “high blood pressure, bring disappointment or waste of resources.
